In addition to providing strategic advice to companies, it is at least as challenging and instructive to keep your own company running. Every YAG employee is also a co-owner and thinks along with the strategy for the coming years. In this way, we continuously work on our quality, growth and optimization of processes.
Personal development is central to your time at YAG. Not only in the consultancy field there is a steep growth curve, but through the personal development plan at YAG we ensure that YAG people get the most out of their environment, from themselves and from the resources that YAG offers.
Whoever helps someone else also helps himself. We are happy to pass on our knowledge, experiences and insights to others through tailor-made training courses, workshops and master classes. In this way we help others to get better at what they do, while they are introduced to what YAG has to offer for them.
Working at YAG
The 9 different functions within YAG form the basis of the company. Every six months, YAGers choose a new position in which they are most challenged and learn the most. Within the function and YAG you are the boss and you can fill it in as you want. In this way, our organization moves quickly and YAG people receive a wide range of experiences.
Consulting work is the main activity of YAG. Projects are done in all conceivable sectors for various clients, from startups to multinationals. The teams are composed with the aim of combining as many knowledge backgrounds as possible in order to approach complex issues from different perspectives. In this way, with the help of our partners and a wide group of alumni, we add the maximum value for the customer. After having done an initial project, a YAG member can choose to lead his own project.
HARD WORK PAYS OFF
Where hard work is done, a reward is in order. After each successfully finished project, the project team meets againfor a fun activity, the so-called ‘4% activities. For example, teams traveled to Lapland to see the Northern Lights, jumped out of an airplane, and went out for a delicious meal. Branches also go away for a weekend every six months and there are several national and branch activities. Do you want to be part of the young advisory group? Apply Now!
What kind of projects does YAG accept?
This can be anything, provided it has a strategic component. Examples are: market research, process optimization, sustainability strategy or an investment issue.
What is the working method on projects?
This differs very much per project. It almost always starts with a proposal, in which the customer’s question is clearly displayed and the approach we have in mind is explained. Then you start with a kick-off internally with the project group and a kick-off with the customer. The working method is very dependent on the type of project and what the question is. Different methods can be used, many of which the consultants learned in the training week they had on entering. Projects are usually concluded with a presentation to the customer.
What is the culture within YAG and to what extent does this differ from other student consultancy companies?
At YAG you are your own boss. You run your own organization, bring in your own projects and do your own entrepreneurial work. Furthermore, we are completely flat; everyone thinks along and wants to help YAG further. YAG is also more commercial compared to many student consultations. Because we make money as a company, we can do a lot of things that other organizations cannot.
What are Taskforces?
We organize projects that arise within YAG that we would like to tackle, but that do not necessarily belong to a certain function or that are too large for one function, in task forces. For example, we have a task force “world improvement”, which ensures that YAG gives something back to society by, for example, organizing job application training for refugees. There were also task forces that, for example, converted the website, organized a national YAG weekend or made a promotional video for YAG nationwide.
The Academy position is responsible for all knowledge transfer within YAG. This means the training we receive from training partners every month, training we offer, but also training each other! Academy also supervises feedback on projects.
Because we as YAG bring in our own projects, the acquisition function ensures the orderly progress of recruiting projects, the occupation of YAGgers on projects and the maintenance and building of network relationships.
The finance function deals with all financial matters that come with running your own business. This means, among other things, that you are involved with wages, taxes, budget planning, overseeing expenditures and much more. This function is always done by 2 consultants together.
The HRE function is responsible for organizing the entire recruitment process. This is a very diverse function; for example, you are busy with the promotion, you make a challenging application process and you have a lot of contact with interested students.
As HRI, you are the confidant and point of contact for all consultants in your location. You are involved in the personal development of all YAG employees, responsible for organizing the training week for the new consultants and you try to organize as many fun activities as possible!
The marketing function deals with all promotion both towards students and companies through various (online & offline) channels.
All operational systems are the responsibility of the operations function. Think of the mail servers, the website and all programs that we use to carry out our projects. Creating new accounts for new consultants is also part of this position.
The TeamCaptain takes care of the communication between the branches about daily affairs (external) and must be aware of what is going on in the branch (internal).
YAG NL organizes the national meetings, the contact with the Advisory Board and controls the task forces.
